If you’ve been thinking, “Maybe this is the year I finally book that cruise,” this week brings plenty to talk about.
Norwegian Cruise Line is showing off its biggest ship yet. Princess Cruises has opened its 2028 Alaska season with an impressive lineup of ships and itineraries. And Holland America has a Labor Day offer that could make a future cruise easier on your wallet.
Here’s the thing: cruise deals can look confusing when you’re comparing deposits, onboard credit, dining packages, and cabin prices across several websites. I’ve been there. When I booked my first cruise for my honeymoon back in 2012, I was excited, but I also had plenty of questions.
So let’s break down this week’s cruise news in plain English.
Quick note: Cruise promotions, prices, sailing schedules, and available cabins can change quickly. Always confirm the current terms before booking.
1. Norwegian Aura Is Bringing a Snow Cave to the Caribbean (Yes, Really)

Norwegian Cruise Line’s upcoming Norwegian Aura is already making waves before its scheduled debut in May 2027.
According to Norwegian Cruise Line’s announcement, Aura will be the line’s largest and longest ship yet. It is scheduled to debut in Europe with a May 2027 sailing before moving into Caribbean service.
And honestly? The ship sounds like a floating resort designed for people who want a little bit of everything.
What makes Norwegian Aura different?
Norwegian Aura will feature:
- A Snow Cave inside the Mandara Spa Thermal Suite
- A Sensory Rain Pool with a simulated thunderstorm experience
- Six waterslides
- An 82-foot Aura Ropes Course
- Ocean Heights, a large outdoor activity area
- Tamara, Norwegian’s first specialty restaurant dedicated entirely to Indian cuisine
- A total of 22 food and beverage venues
- More than 10 culinary styles and dining experiences
The Snow Cave is part of a larger contrast-therapy experience (that’s travel-agent-speak for alternating warm and cold wellness treatments). You might move from a sauna or steam room into the chilly Snow Cave, then relax in a pool or thermal area afterward.
Would I try it? Absolutely, but probably after someone else goes first.
Six slides and an 82-foot ropes course
For families, teenagers, and anyone who thinks a quiet sea day sounds suspicious, Aura’s outdoor activity spaces could be a major draw.
The Ocean Heights area is expected to include six waterslides, carnival-style games, mini golf, rock climbing, cabanas, and the high ropes course. At 82 feet above the ocean, the ropes course should offer plenty of wow moments, and possibly a few nervous laughs.
The ship is also expected to appeal to adults who want more than pool-deck entertainment. The expanded spa, specialty dining, live entertainment, and flexible Norwegian Freestyle approach give couples and solo travelers room to create their own kind of vacation.
Where will Norwegian Aura sail?
Norwegian Aura is scheduled to offer:
Summer 2027 and summer 2028: 7-night Eastern Caribbean cruises from Miami
Possible ports include:
- Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic
- St. Thomas
- Tortola
- Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian’s private island in the Bahamas
Winter sailings: Western Caribbean cruises from Miami
Those itineraries are expected to visit destinations such as:
- Roatán, Honduras
- Costa Maya, Mexico
- Cozumel, Mexico
- Harvest Caye, Belize
That Miami departure point could be convenient for travelers who prefer to fly into a major airport and get settled before sailing. We can also help arrange the surrounding vacation package, including hotels, flights, rental cars, and transfers.
Pro Tip: Don’t book only for the newest feature
A ship’s headline attraction is fun, but the itinerary matters just as much. Before booking Norwegian Aura, I’d look at:
- Port arrival and departure times
- Cabin location
- Whether specialty dining is included
- Internet and beverage package costs
- The total price after taxes, fees, and add-ons
A “cheap” cruise fare can change once you add everything your family actually wants. That’s where having someone compare the details can save you time, and a few headaches.

2. Princess Cruises Opens Its 2028 Alaska Season
If Alaska is on your travel wish list, Princess Cruises has opened its 2028 Alaska season with a very full program.
The season includes:
- 185 departures
- 14 itineraries
- Eight ships
- Sailing lengths from 4 to 16 days
- Alaska cruises and land-and-sea cruisetours
The ship lineup includes the new Star Princess, along with Discovery Princess, Emerald Princess, Royal Princess, Coral Princess, Crown Princess, Island Princess, and Ruby Princess.
What ports can you sail from?
Princess is offering Alaska departures from several West Coast ports:
- Seattle
- Vancouver
- Whittier, near Anchorage
- San Francisco
- Los Angeles
That flexibility is helpful because not every traveler wants to fly across the country just to begin a cruise. A Seattle sailing may be simple for one family, while a San Francisco or Los Angeles departure could work better for another.
For travelers from Flushing, Flint, Grand Blanc, or anywhere else in Michigan, we can compare flight schedules and hotel options along with the cruise itself. Sometimes the best vacation package is not just the lowest cruise fare, it’s the plan that gets you there comfortably and avoids a stressful connection.
Glacier Bay, Voyage of the Glaciers, and cruisetours
Princess continues to highlight Alaska favorites such as Glacier Bay National Park, Hubbard Glacier, College Fjord, and the Inside Passage.
The popular Voyage of the Glaciers itineraries are especially appealing if you want dramatic scenery and classic Alaska ports such as Juneau, Skagway, and Ketchikan.
Want more than a week at sea? Princess cruisetours combine a cruise with time on land, including stays at Princess Wilderness Lodges and transportation by rail or motorcoach. You may be able to add destinations such as Denali National Park, Fairbanks, or the Alaska Range.
That land portion is a big reason many travelers choose Princess for Alaska. You’re not only looking at the state from the ship, you’re getting farther inland.
Pro Tip: Book Alaska earlier than you think
It’s a question everyone asks: “Can I wait for a last-minute Alaska deal?”
Sometimes, yes. But if you have a specific month, cabin type, or itinerary in mind, early planning usually gives you more choices. Alaska’s cruise season is limited, and popular sailings can fill well before departure.

3. Holland America Labor Day Deal Runs Through September 8

Now let’s talk about the cruise deal many travelers will want to watch.
Holland America’s Labor Day Deal includes:
- Up to 45% off select cruises
- $99 deposits
- Up to $400 in shipboard credit per stateroom
- Savings available through September 8
Shipboard credit can be used for eligible purchases such as shore excursions, spa services, specialty dining, and other onboard experiences.
What does “up to” really mean?
Let me be straight with you: “up to 45% off” does not mean every Holland America cruise is discounted by 45%.
Promotions usually depend on:
- Ship
- Sailing date
- Destination
- Cabin category
- Availability
- Whether the fare is combinable with another offer
The $99 deposit may also apply only to select sailings and booking conditions. That doesn’t make the offer bad, it simply means you should compare the complete price instead of looking only at the headline.
You can review the promotion through Holland America’s Labor Day Deal page.
Save on Sunshine promotion
Holland America is also promoting Save on Sunshine, with savings of up to 40% on select tropical cruises. The offer focuses on warm-weather getaways to destinations such as the Caribbean and Mexico, with select bookings eligible for up to $400 in onboard credit.
If cold weather is not your jam, this may be a good time to look at winter cruising. A few days in the Caribbean can feel like hitting the reset button, especially when Michigan is buried under snow.
Looking ahead to Holland America’s 2028 Europe season
Holland America’s 2028 Europe season is also generating interest. The lineup is expected to include five ships, including an upgraded Zuiderdam and the return of Nieuw Amsterdam.
Europe cruises are a great option if you want to visit several countries without constantly packing and unpacking. Depending on the itinerary, you may be able to explore Mediterranean ports, Northern Europe, Scandinavia, or the British Isles.
And no, the Labor Day offer should not automatically be assumed to apply to every 2028 Europe sailing. Promotions have specific terms, so we would want to check the ship, date, cabin, and current offer before making a recommendation.
