MSC World Asia has completed her sea trials, an important milestone before the ship enters service. Sea trials test the ship’s engines, maneuverability, safety systems, speed, stopping distance and overall performance at sea.

That means the ship is moving into the final stretch before welcoming guests.

MSC World Asia is scheduled to begin her first seven-night Mediterranean itinerary from Barcelona on December 4, 2026. The winter program is expected to include:

• Barcelona
• Marseille
• Genoa
• Civitavecchia for Rome
• Messina
• Valletta

The ship is designed as an MSC World Class flagship, with more than 40 bars, lounges and restaurants. MSC is also highlighting Asian-inspired design touches, including a massive dragon sculpture suspended above the World Promenade.

Families will have plenty to keep them busy, too. Highlights include a waterpark, kids’ playground, bumper cars, sports areas, family dining and the long Spiral @ Tree of Life dry slide.

Carnival Tropicale Opens 2028 Bookings From Galveston

Carnival Tropicale is now open for bookings for her planned 2028 season from Galveston, Texas.

For travelers who like the idea of driving to the port instead of flying, this is a big deal. Galveston can be a practical departure point for guests across Texas and the central United States: and it gives Carnival another impressive new ship in the Gulf of Mexico market.

The ship is expected to begin sailing from Galveston on April 15, 2028, with four-, five-, six- and eight-day cruises. Depending on the sailing, guests may visit destinations such as:

• Half Moon Cay
• Isla Tropicale
• Cozumel
• Progreso
• Nassau

Viking Astrea Floated Out Ahead of Her 2027 Launch

Viking Astrea has now touched water for the first time after her float-out ceremony at Fincantieri’s Ancona Shipyard in Italy.

What does “floated out” mean? It means the ship has moved from the building dock into the water and is entering the final construction and interior outfitting phase.

Viking Astrea is scheduled for delivery in May 2027 and will be Viking’s second hydrogen-powered cruise ship capable of operating with zero emissions in certain conditions. Her hybrid propulsion system combines liquefied hydrogen and fuel cells with conventional technology.

The ship is expected to carry approximately 998 guests in 499 staterooms. Her inaugural season will include itineraries in:

• The Mediterranean
• Northern Europe

This is a smaller-ship experience compared with the giant family ships, which may appeal to travelers who prefer a quieter pace, destination-focused itineraries and fewer guests onboard.

Beachcomber Brings Margaritaville at Sea to Galveston

Margaritaville at Sea is bringing its newest flagship, Beachcomber, to Galveston beginning in October 2027.

The ship will offer four- to seven-night cruises from Texas, with itineraries reaching farther into the Caribbean and Latin America. Planned destinations include:

• Aruba
• Curaçao
• Key West
• Grand Cayman
• Montego Bay
• Belize
• Roatán
• Cozumel
• Progreso
• Veracruz
• Grand Bahama Island
• Bimini

That is a lot of variety for a ship sailing from Galveston.

Onboard, Beachcomber will bring the Margaritaville style travelers expect, including 5 O’Clock Somewhere, Cheeseburger in Paradise, License to Chill and live entertainment. The ship will also feature Same Boat, a live music venue created with Zac Brown.

The official Beachcomber announcement confirms that these itineraries are available to book now.

My take: Beachcomber could be a fun fit for travelers who want a relaxed, casual vacation without flying to Florida. If you live near Houston, Dallas, Austin or elsewhere in Texas, it is worth comparing the cost of driving to Galveston with the cost of flying to another cruise port.

EXPLORA III Is Spending Her Maiden Season in Northern Europe

EXPLORA III is now in her maiden season, and her Northern Europe program is one of the most interesting luxury cruise developments this year.

The ship’s summer 2026 journey began in the Mediterranean before continuing north through Europe, Iceland and Greenland. The season also reaches Canada, New England and eventually North America.

The itinerary style is designed around longer stays, overnight visits and fewer repeated routes. Guests may experience destinations such as:

• Bergen and Flåm in Norway
• Riga and Tallinn in the Baltic
• Stockholm
